12/20/2014

Alright, so this hasn't worked out as planned... I meant to do this every day, and maybe will eventually get to that point... but here are some of the past weeks moments:

  • My cousin-in-law called and chatted with me today.  It was nice of her to think of us and want to see how me and my family were doing.
  • My parents helped me put together a Christmas card/birth announcement.  I'm sure it took them much longer than anticipated, but it looks lovely and I'm grateful for their time and love.
  • A nice family helped take our picture last night.  Seldom do we get shots of the whole "clan".
  • I've had several of my students check in to see how I am doing since I went back to work this week.  It's sweet that they ask.
  • Billy gets up in the morning with Hannah and Noah and lets me sleep longer.  He does it as soon as he hears Hannah getting restless after her last feeding.  Sometimes he sneaks her out so quickly and quietly that I wake not realizing they are already gone.
  • My friend Lindsey calls me regularly to see how I am doing.  I appreciate that she takes the time to show she's thinking of me at a time when she knows I might need that.
That's it for now.  Thanks for your time!

December 9th: Every Day Moments

This blog won't be flowery or long.  It won't include pictures or major moments.  I don't have a lot of time to document my every day moments -- so it can only take a few minutes.  Here are today's and a few from the weekend that I wanted to remember.

  • My aunts and a cousin came to see me for a bit today.  Having people visit helps me feel less disconnected from the world since I can't get out on my own yet -- which is important for my emotional health right now.
  • My 3 year old and I passed his ball back and forth this evening.  His laugh made me laugh.
  • My husband took out (and takes out) the trash this evening without any prompting.  He's always good like that.
  • On Sunday, my new visiting teacher called me to set up an appointment.  While I wasn't dancing about having her come, her call was timely. I was having a weird moment of feeling guilty about my new daughters large birth weight after reading articles about the potential consequences of a big birth weight.  While I know I did the best I could and everything seemed like it should have set up for a "normal" sized baby, that didn't happen... and I was blaming myself and worrying.  My new VT told me she'd had a baby (the size even bigger than my own) and told me about how beautiful she was as an adult now.  She had no way of knowing that this was looming in my thoughts at that moment -- but I was grateful for her encouraging words.  My aunts reminded me of how big their babies were today -- and they are all wonderfully healthy now.
  • My son gave me a big hug and smile tonight as he went to bed.  I love those hugs and smiles.
That's it for today's every day moments.  Thanks for playing!

Every Day Moments Introduction

With my first pregnancy, I found myself in the unfortunate circumstances of battling a bit of postpartum depression.  While it didn't last for as long as some, it was enough of a bad experience that when I became pregnant with child #2, I knew I would need to do some things differently.  Along with planning ahead and talking with my doctor, looking for natural remedies in advance, and having the tough conversations with those nearest to me about what to be watching for, I have decided to create this blog.

What is the point of this blog?  I have another blog for documenting my "big" moments in life.  This blog is different.  My goal is to remember the good things that happen each day... the small things.  The every day moments that are good.  So now, 8 days after the birth of my second child, I am starting the blog.  You're welcome to read along -- but this blog is mostly for me.  It's a way to keep track of the good in hopes of keeping my mind focused on those things.

Anyway -- that's what this blog is about.  Thanks for reading!
